How unforgettable is the whoosh of the bold and beautiful Kererū flying through the bush and crash-landing into a tree? Imagine a century ago seeing 100 of these beauties powering together through the skies. The Kererū is literally our only bird left big enough to disperse the seeds of our largest native trees, so they’re a life saver for the likes of Tawa and Karaka. Once upon a time plump Kererū made tasty eating for Maori but they’re now protected, giving them the cheeky nickname ‘illegal tegel’. Who doesn’t need a Kererū in their life?
Our regular sized Kererū is:

The Metalbird Story:
"Metalbird grew from a New Zealand Street Art Project I started back in 2009. I created and installed cool metal bird silhouettes around my neighbourhood just for fun. People loved them, wanted them and 10 years later Metalbird has become a global art project.
With the simple tap of a hammer, this beautifully crafted, iconic, life-like bird silhouette will transform your backyard, garden or environment into a work of art and put smiles on faces for years to come.
Producing locally and ethically is important to us. Each bird is proudly cut then crafted in a small family owned NZ factory out of premium 11-Gauge Corten Steel.
We love what we do. We hope it shows.
Welcome to the project."
