Metalbird | NZ Black Robin

$65.00

The pretty, round Chatham Island Black Robin is a tiny miracle. In the early 80s it was the world’s rarest bird – the population was down to a single egg-laying female. A successful breeding programme turned it around and the world cheered as it came back from certain extinction. While the Black Robin is still desperately rare, the population now sits at 250-300 birds. We can’t sing the praises of this lovely songbird enough. It deserves to be honoured in your backyard.

Our Robin is:

  • 12cm high by 31cm wide (includes measurement of the branch/spike)
  • Easily installed with the tap of a hammer (pre-drill hard wood)
  • Crafted in 3mm Corten® 'weathering' Steel to form a beautiful patina that changes with the seasons
  • Makes a great gift for someone who has defied the odds

Install Tip: Hold the Robin firmly with one hand, and hammer onto the flat piece of the branch. We've found most success by installing these birds in either trees or posts. If installing into a post or any other firmer structure, you may need to pre-drill a hole first.

The Metalbird Story:

Metalbird grew from a New Zealand Street Art Project I started back in 2009. I created and installed cool metal bird silhouettes around my neighbourhood just for fun. People loved them, wanted them and 10 years later Metalbird has become a global art project.

With the simple tap of a hammer, this beautifully crafted, iconic, life-like bird silhouette will transform your backyard, garden or environment into a work of art and put smiles on faces for years to come.

Producing locally and ethically is important to us. Each bird is proudly cut then crafted in a small family owned NZ factory out of premium 11-Gauge Corten Steel.

We love what we do. We hope it shows.

Welcome to the project.
