This third instalment takes readers through the changing seasons at Tangleby, beginning with winter’s magical snowfall. The animals are delighted by the frosty transformation, enjoying snowman building, snowball fights, and even a thrilling hot air balloon ride. Beneath the playful adventures lies a theme of teamwork, as the Tangleby animals come together to help the mouse family in need, showing kindness and support with homemade Tim Tam Fudge and warm community spirit.
As the story progresses, winter gradually shifts to summer, and the adventure
continues with an exciting trip to Foxton Beach, where the animals are invited to the
Winterbottoms' seaside holiday home. Their journey, aboard The Kiwi Adventurer, is filled with excitement as they ferry across the Cook Strait, enjoying treats like Puff Pastry Quiche and Chocolate Freckles along the way. Peking, as always, adds a delightful dose of chaos with his clumsy antics, keeping everyone on their toes!
The shift from snowy winter scenes to sun-soaked beach days is beautifully captured in the story, offering readers a sense of seasonal magic. From building snowmen to making sandcastles, the Tangleby animals embrace every moment with joy.
Alongside their adventures, readers will delight in the tempting food descriptions, from warming winter dishes like Chinese Chicken and Corn Soup to summer picnics featuring Bacon & Egg Pie and Apple Slaw.
Beyond the story, Tails of Tangleby 3 offers over 35 delectable recipes, graded for all skill levels, from very easy to more advanced. With each recipe featuring a handy QR code for quick access to instructions, and a useful conversion guide, the book ensures an enjoyable cooking experience for readers of all ages. The whimsical illustrations by Nelson artist Jane Smith bring the characters and their culinary adventures to life, making this book a visual and gastronomic treat.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Tangleby Gardens.
Sue Heazlewood has a huge passion for cooking, gardening and children. She has six children of her own who are all very close in age. There are three boys and three girls who are all adults now.
After creating her dream garden, she decided to include a rather elaborate playhouse in preparation for the arrival of potential grandchildren. While she was decorating the playhouse her mind wandered onto an imaginary life there, with talking animals. And so my beautiful and smart characters were born.
The recipes are in three stages of ability – very easy, easy and some skill required.
